In this compelling play set at the turn of the century, the charm and graciousness of Southern gentility masks the scheming and cruelty of the Hubbard family. The plans of brothers Ben and Oscar to build a mill hinge on money stolen from Horace’s bank. When Horace rewrites his will to leave Regina only the amount stolen, she blackmails her suspected family to get her share and mock her estranged spouse. Regina’s tirade repulses her daughter Alexandra and causes Horace to have a severe heart attack. As the siblings battle for control of the family fortune, their heartless, corrupt ways are laid bare.

When harassed advertising executive Timothy Westerby hits his head on the morning of his daughter’s wedding, he awakes to find himself in the company of a 1920’s flapper from out of his current advertising campaign. As Timothy starts to live out his fantasy at the Savoy hotel in 1926, the carefully planned society wedding disintegrates into chaos. Family and friends frantically try to get Timothy back to the present and walk his daughter down the aisle before the future in-laws abandon the wedding entirely.

”Witness for the Prosecution”
A Mystery by Agatha Christie
Miss Emily French, a wealthy, elderly woman is brutally murdered. While it appears to be the work of burglars, nothing is missing. Further investigation indicates that the victim was on friendly terms with her murderer. Seen earlier that evening by the housekeeper Janet and business advisor Leonard, both have alibis for the time of death - - but what to make of Leonard’s mysterious wife Sabine, who is acting strangely and is hazy on details. Agatha Christie lays her usual trail of confusion, doubt and uncertainty in entertaining fashion.

Percy Talbott fresh from a 5 year prison term, arrives in the town she fell in love with after seeing a magazine picture in the prison library. As the reality of economically depressed Gilead sets in, she finds employment at the Spitfire Grill. Slowly, her upbeat mentality injects new life into the skeptical and wary town. With a score inspired by American folk music, this story of hope and redemption shows us how those who bring change, are themselves changed by the experiences surrounding them.

A Message from our Board of Directors
WESTFIELD COMMUNITY PLAYERS (WCP), founded in 1934, has brought more than
200 comedies, dramas, musicals and mysteries to life on our stage. All productions
are presented in our own 150 seat theater on the corner of Edgewood Avenue
and North Avenue West in Westfield. With our productions, we continue to be
part of the active cultural scene in Westfield and surrounding communities.
WCP is committed to offering hands-on participation for those wishing to learn more about various aspects of live theatrical production and performance and providing a varied theater experience to a broad audience. We do that by actively seeking volunteers to keep our theater functioning, and by maintaining an “open casting policy” where anyone can audition for any of our scheduled plays.
The key to our success and longevity, is the hard work and dedication of our numerous volunteer members. To join them and learn about theater arts and the business side of running a non-profit organization, please fill out the attached interest sheet and send it along with your membership check, payable to Westfield Community Players.
For audition notices, members receive early notification of dates from our newsletter, with email updates if desired. Or, you can watch for press releases in the Sunday Star Ledger, Westfield Leader and other area newspapers.
Comedy, mystery and drama will be presented as part of our new season. With scheduled performances spanning three or four weekends, it’s easy to enjoy a “local night out” of live theater at our conveniently located theater.
