Dinosaurs (working title): March 23 - May 18, 1997
(Main and Hedley/Newkirk Galleries, Sculpture Terrace) This scientifically accurate educational exhibition will tour Canada and the United States. It includes life-sized model skeletons of prehistoric creatures as well as skulls, fossils on loan from the Royal Ontario Museum, computer games by Microsoft and an interactive "dino-dig" sandbox for children. The exhibition will complement exhibits of The Morris Museum Permanent Collection of paleontology materials.

The Friends of The Morris Museum Annual Spring Event: Spring 1997
Each spring, The Friends of The Morris Museum, a volunteer fundraising group, holds a unique event to benefit The Morris Museum and its programs. Details to be announced.

Fresh Perspectives: May 15 - June 22, 1997
Free Public Reception 6:00 to 8:00 PM on May 15, 1997

(and Bush-Compton Galleries) This annual competition and exhibition, sponsored by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, showcases the artwork of New Jersey high school students.

Bicycles: History, Beauty, Fantasy: June 8 - September 7, 1997
(Main, Hedley-Newkirk and Tregenza Galleries) The exhibition traces the evolution of the bicycle from 1817-1920 and explores the advances in design and the resulting cultural impact that this technology had on Victorian society. Over 400 antique bicycles, prints, posters and bicycle related objects from Europe and the United States will be on view. The exhibition is made possible by PaineWebber Group Inc.

New Jersey Artists Series -- Leah Jacobson: June 1997 - March 1998
(Sculpture Terrace, Sculpture Courtyard, Museum grounds) This sculptor, who lives and works in Jersey City, uses steel as her primary material, "salvaging and reconfiguring exhausted fragments to create sculptures which bridge the mechanical of the present and the organic of the past and embody the tension between an intrinsic organic geometry and human attempts at environmental mastery."

Morris Museum Annual Golf Classic: August 1997 Annual fundraising event, organized by the Friends of The Morris Museum. Date and location to be announced.

New Jersey Arts Annual--Crafts: September - November 1997
(Tregenza, and Bush/Compton Galleries) The New Jersey Arts Annual is a unique series of exhibitions highlighting the works of visual artists and craftspeople in the state. Two exhibitions take place each year: Fine Arts in the spring/summer and Crafts in the fall/winter. The annual series is co-sponsored by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, The Morris Museum, The Montclair Art Museum, The Newark Museum, the New Jersey State Museum, The Noyes Museum and the Jersey City Museum.
